Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking official commented the attack left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
